Our Programs

HEALTH:
In the area of health, we work with schools and churches on spreading healthy living practices, needs for immunization, stopping female genital mutilation, cancer awareness, etc.

Since we have many healthcare workers and student doctors, nurses, we have had a very great impact in this area.

E.g: We make information handbills in English language, and then translate to igbo, hausa for the hausa communities in this region. We also provide man power as volunteers to Rotary health care
projects, NPI/UNICEF immunization plus, Breast without Spot team etc to make sure maximum impacts is being reached.

In this area, the successes recorded by the above organizations are being attributed to the youth voluntary contributions of FVGI.

Our greatest asset in this area of healthcare is that most of our network anchors are healthcare workers, hence our ability to be organizing health seminars twice in a month for the public, especially rural dwellers using their local dialect.

MATERNAL HEALTH
In a community in Ebonyi state, we mobilized community women, who paid MDG visit to the LGA chairman, who in turn reached the health ministry, until a model healthcare institution is being built in that umota community. The rural women have jointly contributed towards the ambulance project for emergency cases especially child birth. Over 50% cost of the ambulance have been raised from among the women, and we are currently reaching out to the UNICEF field A office to complement the balance in agreement with the MDG goal 8.

ENVIRONMENT:
In the area of environment, we (FVGI) forms alliance with ministry of environment and schools in order to drive forward tree planting and growing recreation parks.

In this regard, we are setting up with Anambra state ministry of environment to start an erosion control measure by tree planting per head of any child in the school. This model has yielded result with the Cross River state ministry of environment. Where we have recovered and decorated the entrance to Calabar town Near Tinapa entrance (Odukpani Road).

We designed the model, worked it out and submitted to the ministry of environment who is implementing the project, and we (FVGI) are part of the supervision.
